Appellate procedure is the legal process that can be undertaken by a person who believes that the judgment in a case was not correct and would like to have it reviewed by a higher court. A litigant could follow the appellate procedure to the Supreme Court, wherein that ruling would be final and lack any appellate procedure.
Court rules require that certain legal procedures are followed by any litigant in requesting an appeal, such as a time frame that has to be adhered to (usually 30 days), and filing the appeal to the proper court, which is dependent upon which court the case was most recently tried in.
