Citation Signal

A citation signal is a set of phrases that appear within a law to communicate another piece of information, specifically to clarify authority of the citation. There are many different citation signals in use within the law.

Citations are used to show how a case either supports or does not support a specific proposition when a summary or analysis of a case or case law is written.

Citation signals are listed fully within The Bluebook and the ALWD, which are considered the definitive books for legal signals in use within the U.S.
