Definition of Fact Finder

Fact finder or finder of fact refers to a single person or a group of persons who decide and regulate facts involved in a legal proceedings (trial). To decide and come to a conclusion, the fact finder determines the fact based on the evidence whether some event occurred or something existed.

In a criminal prosecution or a civil lawsuit, a judge may occasionally appoint a special "master." The duty of the special master would be to further investigate and present a report explaining the existence of facts.
