A judicial opinion is a document that contains a judge's written explanation of a judgment that was made for a particular case. Sometimes, a panel of judges may preside over a case. In such a situation, the judicial opinion reflects the overall opinions of all of the judges who presided over the case.
Sometimes, when more than one judge presides over a case, not every judge will have the same opinion on the matter. When the judges are all in agreement, the judicial opinion is called a concurring opinion.
If the judges do not all agree, the judicial opinion is called a dissenting opinion. However, even if a dissenting opinion takes place, the majority will still rule. This means that the ruling on the issue will go to the side with the most judges supporting it.
