Jurisprudence is the study, understanding and application of law. The legal system as a whole is referred to as jurisprudence, as is the act of taking a case through the courts and gaining a judgment on it.
The term is Latin in nature and was the first reference to modern-day laws that existed in the contemporary legal system.
The principles by which the law was introduced is also referred to as jurisprudence.
