Burglary

Definition of Burglary

Burglary is when a person who intends to commit a crime enters a building or structure unlawfully. It doesn't matter if the person breaks into the building or if they enter through an open door. All that is required for the act to be burglary is that the individual trespasses with an intent to commit a crime.

Burglary Explained

People who participate in a burglary are typically trying to steal or vandalize something within the building or structure. Burglary is similar to robbery except that it usually does not involve the use of force or intimidation. In fact, burglars typically try to avoid being detected by others while they are committing the crime. Anyone who is caught in the act of burglary can be prosecuted in a court of law. Legal repercussions can follow if the individual is found guilty.
