Crime is a breaking of the law which can result in criminal charges and jail time or other legal consequences for the perpetrator. Examples of crimes include burglary, theft, assault, driving under the influence, murder, etc.The more severe the crime, the more severe the consequence. For example, those convicted of certain types of murder can face the death penalty in many states.



Crime Explained

Crime is basically just when someone does something that is forbidden by law, and can be punished as a result. Laws are created by governments in order to protect citizens from undesirable behaviors such as theft and assault. So, when a person breaks one of these laws, then they can be held accountable. Prisons are filled with people convicted of committing crimes. How long these people stay in prison depends on the severity of the crime that they committed. Serious crimes can result in lengthy prison sentences.
