Definition of Domestic Assault

Domestic assault is when one member of a household physically attacks another member of the household. Domestic assault commonly occurs between spouses or couples who are living together under the same roof.

Domestic assault is a crime, and those found guilty of it can face legal consequences, potentially including jail time.



Domestic Assault Explained

Many different actions can constitute domestic assault. For example, hitting, kicking, choking, biting, etc. can all qualify as domestic assault.

There are varying degrees of domestic assault. Simple domestic assault does not involve the use of a dangerous weapon, and commonly does not result in a serious injury to the victim. Aggravated domestic assault, on the other hand, generally involves the use of a dangerous weapon and/or serious injury to the victim or victims.
