Extradition refers to the surrender of a person (usually someone charged with a crime) by a state or a country in which they currently are in to the state or country that wants to prosecute them. Literally, the term extradition means sending a person back.
The request for extradition usually goes through one Governor's or foreign office to another. These offices may also decline to send the person back if they are not satisfied with the prosecution. However, this rarely happens.
