Failure to Register

Definition of Failure to Register

Failure to register is a crime whereby a convicted sex offender is released from prison and settles in an area or jurisdiction that the convicted offender does not register as living in. It is a legal requirement for convicted sex offenders to register the address of their place of residence so that law enforcement can locate them and be aware of them.

Failure to Register Explained

The general public also has a legal right to know if a registered sex offender is living in their area; therefore, the requirement exists so that a database can be compiled and kept up to date.
