Forcible sodomy is when a person, regardless of their gender, undertakes a sexual interaction where the genitals of one person connects with the anus or the mouth of another person.
The interaction must be forced, i.e. against the will of one party, to be considered forcible sodomy.
Forcible sodomy is a felony and holds the same sentencing guidelines as rape. Some states have a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for forcible sodomy. However, in other states, life in prison can be a sentence for forcible sodomy.
Although forcible sodomy typically involves one person forcing genital contact with or penetrating another person's mouth or anus without their consent, there are some circumstances under which it doesn't involve such. In these circumstances, even if the contact or penetration is not technically forced, it is still considered forced because the victim is deemed incapable of consenting. Such situations include a child under the age of 16 being sodomized by someone who's over 18, a physically or developmentally disabled person being sodomized, and other such situations.
