Plea Agreement

A plea agreement or a plea bargain refers to the agreement between the prosecutor on one side and the defendant with their attorney on the other side. This is usually seen in criminal procedures in which the defendant agrees to either no “no contest” or plead “guilty.”

Plea Agreement Explained

A plea agreement usually results in the dismissal of charges, a reduction of severity of charges, the prosecutor recommending a particular sentence, or any other benefits for the defendant. In return, defendant usually is required to disclose certain relevant information about the case such as the names of other criminals, admission of additional crimes, revealing the location of goods stolen, etc.
