Sex trafficking is the crime of forcing or coercing a person to have sex with other people for business purposes. Sex trafficking often involves tricking or deceiving a person into traveling away from their home, and then forcing them into prostitution. The vast majority of sex trafficking victims are women.
Sex trafficking is a very serious crime and can carry severe sentences. Sex trafficking is similar to prostitution. The difference, however, is that people who participate in prostitution often do so voluntarily. This is not the case with sex trafficking, where the victims are frequently kidnapped or otherwise transported to a different location, and are held there by threat of force or through another manipulation technique.
The primary motive for people who commit this heinous crime is usually to make money.
