Able-bodied refers to a person who does not have any physical disabilities that severely affect them. An able-bodied person is physically strong and healthy. They can easily take care of the physical tasks required of everyday life.
An able-bodied person is capable of completing everyday physical tasks without substantial help. Such tasks include bathing, going to the grocery store, pumping gas, washing dishes, preparing meals, clothing oneself, etc. Courts and the government are concerned with whether a person is able-bodied for a number of reasons. For example, the Social Security Administration may give benefits to a person based on that person being able-bodied. Furthermore, a court, or a jury, may give monetary damages to a person who became non-able-bodied due to the negligence of another party.
