The residual functional capacity (RFC) form refers to a form filled out by a physician to provide an assessment of a claimant's ability to work after factoring in the claimant's disability. While applying for Social Security Disability benefits, apart from the Disability Determination Services (DDS) medical consultant, the RFC form can also be filed by the claimant's treating physician.
The U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) provides Social Security Disability benefits only to the claimants who are not able to perform any kind of work. In order to determine a disabled individual's remaining ability to work, the claims examiner of Disability Determination Services (DDS) does a residual functional capacity (RFC) assessment of the individual. The RFC form is an integral part of this assessment. It is filled out by a Disability Determination Services (DDS) physician. The RFC form can also be filled out by a claimant's treating physician.
