Co-Parenting and Divorce

Definition of Co-Parenting and Divorce

Co-parenting and divorce refers to a situation in which parents share the responsibility of raising their child after their divorce. Co-parenting does not imply joint custody. It is a generic term that refers to any kind of arrangement in which the child is being raised by both parents regardless of how much time or effort each parent is putting in individually.

Co-Parenting and Divorce Explained

In most divorce cases, some amount of physical custody of a child is granted to each parent except in cases where a parent is found incapable of raising a child or unsafe for the child. Irrespective of the grounds on which a couple gets a divorce, a child has a right to maintain his or her relationship with both the parents; this is the premise on which the principles of co-parenting are based.
