Domestic Partner Adoption

Definition of Domestic Partner Adoption

Domestic partner adoption is when a person in a domestic partnership adopts, or legally takes on as their own, a child of the other person in the domestic partnership. Domestic partnerships are often comprised of homosexual couples. So, children who are adopted in domestic partner adoptions frequently have two same sex parents. However, this is not always the case.

Not all states allow domestic partner registration. However, a number of states do. These states include California, Maine, Oregon, and Washington.
