Finalization

Definition of Finalization

Finalization refers to the formal conclusion of something. In the context of the law, finalization can refer to the last steps of making a legally binding deal complete. Finalization is also a term used in adoption law that refers to last step in the adoption process, in which adoptive parents go before a judge to get full legal authority to have custody for the adoptive child.

Finalization Explained

During a finalization hearing, a judge will review all of the documents and other relevant information for the adoption. If the judge approves everything, then the court will issue a formal certificate of adoption. After that, the adoption is formal and the adoptive parents will possess full legal custody of the child. This also means that the child is entitled to all the rights that the biological children of the same parents would have, including inheritance rights, etc.
