Independent adoption can be defined as an adoption which is non-agency or non-relative in nature. The process is usually done by attorneys. In an independent adoption, the birth mother usually selects and decides the adopting parents.
Independent adoption is legal in almost every state, but in some states it is severely restricted such as Colorado. In Colorado, independent adoption is not allowed unless the adoption is carried out in some other state where it is allowed. Then the state will allow it as well.
