Definition of Visitation Order

A visitation order is a court order that requires a custodial parent to give access of the children to the noncustodial parent. A visitation order states what days and times the children have to be made available to the noncustodial parent. It may include either supervised visitation rights or unsupervised and overnight visitation. If the custodial parent breaks the visitation order, they may be held in contempt of court and can suffer a loss of the children.

A visitation order can only be made through the normal court process as determined by the family court judge. The determination of whether or not visitation rights will be ordered is taken very seriously.
