Privileged communication refers to any type of information exchanged between parties that is recognized under the law as having special rights. Specifically, the right that is acquired due to this privilege is that the communication does not have to be provided to a court of law under any circumstances. These privileged communications are secret and will remain secret.
One of the most recognized privileged communications is between attorney and client. Under the attorney client privilege, communications are protected between attorney and client when the communications are based on obtaining legal advice. If an attorney and client are talking about legal matters in a space where other people can hear them, then that communication will not be privileged. Other privileged communications include: accountant client privilege, priest penitent privilege, therapist patient privilege, doctor patient privilege, the privilege that exists between married couples.
