The Fair Housing Amendments Act is an extension of the Fair Housing Act. The Amendments were put into law in 1988. It provided that disabled children and their families are part of a protected class of people.
In 1974, the original Fair Housing Act was implemented. It was put into law to ensure that people were able to get housing regardless of their race, color, religion, or nationality. In 1988, the act was amended to include disabled children and their families as part of the protected class of people.
