Picketing


Definition of Picketing

Picketing is a type of protest that is taken on by employees of a company against their employer. Normally, it is done with the backing of the union that the employees are paid members of, and is for the purpose of gaining better working conditions. The purpose of the picket is two-fold:

  1. It stops the employer from gaining the labor of the employee in that they aren't at their jobs while they are picketing; and
  2. it brings public awareness to the customers of the business.


Picketing Explained

Picketing allows employees to tell the customers and the general public about the working conditions of the business that they are frequenting. It also often helpful in forcing the employer to understand how the employees feel about the subject, and understand the severity of the employer's actions as seen through the eyes of the employee.
