Stand-Your-Ground Law

Definition of Stand-Your-Ground Law

A stand-your-ground law is a law that allows people to protect themselves by any means necessary when there is an imminent threat to their personal safety.

Also referred to as a "no-retreat law," the stipulation for personal protection extends beyond a person's personal property and into public spaces as well.

For those who have a concealed weapons permit, it means that they would be able to shoot another person to protect their own safety or that of their family member(s).
