Bote is a sum of money that is given as a compensation when one party has caused another to suffer financial losses. The word "bote" is often added after the word that reflects the property that has been damaged. For example, if a house has been damaged, it would be common for people to say "house-bote" is owed.
Often, the result of civil lawsuits is that the judge or jury orders that one party pay bote to another to make up for causing that party a loss. For example, if one party accidentally destroyed a gazebo on another party's lawn, then he or she could have to pay bote to replace the gazebo. Bote is essentially the same thing as damages. Often, people purchase liability insurance to protect themselves in case they have to pay bote for various reasons.
