Hotchpot is a conveyancing term that is used in probate law wherein a group of properties are valued together and included in the same trust for the purpose of creating an equal distribution of the combined value of the properties between beneficiaries at a later date.
This is also done when a person dies without a will (intestate), and their assets are all sold, with the resulting financial sum disbursed between surviving family members in the portion attributed to them by intestate law.
