Retaliatory eviction refers to a situation where the owner of the property (landlord) ejects or tries to eject the tenant or declines to renew the lease. This may happen because of tenant’s complaints against the condition of the property, their participation in unions, or any other similar activity which the landowner doesn’t appreciate.
Retaliatory eviction can be explained with an example. Consider a tenant who makes a complaint about the bad sanitary condition of the house they live in. The landlord, rather than fixing it,act asks the tenant to leave the premises in retaliation.
